Entry Requirements Art and English Language at GCSE Grade C (although ideally grade B or above).
Content / Overview Art offers a unique way to observe the world. It allows you to put your own ideas and experiences into action by using a variety of media. For the AS in Year 1, you will learn a range of skills and methods and experiment with different personal approaches. You will also find out about the work of other artists. In the second year, for A2, your skills and interests will be developed through discussion with your teacher.
Assessment on both courses is mainly by coursework with some externally set tasks. This subject is both enjoyable and challenging and covers a range of learning methods to include practical work, educational visits, research and presentations. Both AS and A2 have impressive records of success, with many students gaining good grades. Students’ achievements are widely recognised and celebrated through displays around the College.
A high proportion of students progress onto Art related courses.
Delivery Method Learn a range of skills and methods and experiment with different personal approaches in specially designed art and design workshops.
Assessment Mostly coursework.
Progression University or art foundation courses.
Homework You will be required to complete 4 - 5 hours of private study per week to meet coursework requirements. These tasks may be stand alone or part of a sequence of thematic activities initiated in the lesson. The studio is available to undertake this work if required, outside of lesson times.
Additional Information You will be required to provide a range of basic art materials to include pencils, brushes, pens, paint, pastels etc. An A1 portfolio will be essential to store your work, as well as sketchbooks.
The costs of these materials will be approximately £40 for AS and £40 for A2.
All students aged 19 years or over on 1 September in the first year of their course are expected to pay tuition, registration, exam fees and all other course related costs. Some assistance with these costs may be available depending on your circumstances and the latest government funding position. There are normally no tuition, registration or examination fees to pay if you are aged 16-18 on 1 September in the first year of your course and are a British or European Union resident. This does not apply to HNCs/Ds, Foundation Degrees, Degrees or courses that do not attract government funding.
