Entry Requirements It is preferable to have studied DT Graphic Design at GCSE. The study of any other DT area and/or Art at GCSE is also helpful. Very good communication skills, both verbal and written are essential.
Content / Overview Whilst demanding, the course is varied and interesting and enables you to improve your all round knowledge of the subject area. The course comprises of two units in year one for AS Level, plus a further two units in year two for the full A Level.
For the AS Level you will produce a coursework portfolio and undertake an externally set assignment. For the full A Level you will carry out a personal investigation and undertake an externally set assignment. You will learn how to develop graphic ideas through sustained investigations based on contextual sources and will experiment with a wide variey of traditional and contemporary resources, media, materials, techniques and processes to produce personal and meaningful pieces of graphic design.
Delivery Method Practically based course exploring graphic design.
Assessment 50% coursework portfolio and 50% externally set assignments.
Progression Degree or careers in graphic design, advertising, illustration, product design, animation, web design, interior design or architecture.
Homework Homework tasks directly relate to the project being produced in sessions; this could mean research into a particular designer or design movement, initial ideas or idea developments. As much time should be spent on homework as in classroom sessional work.
Additional Information Equipment is provided, although it is recommended that students purchase some items to use at home. Material fees will be approximately £50.
All students aged 19 years or over on 1 September in the first year of their course are expected to pay tuition, registration, exam fees and all other course related costs. Some assistance with these costs may be available depending on your circumstances and the latest government funding position. There are normally no tuition, registration or examination fees to pay if you are aged 16-18 on 1 September in the first year of your course and are a British or European Union resident. This does not apply to HNCs/Ds, Foundation Degrees, Degrees or courses that do not attract government funding.
