A Farnham College student is to compete against the country’s best young IT brains in the national finals of the WorldSkills competition.
Lee Kitching, 17, of Aldershot, has been selected to compete in the World Skills UK Final of the Microsoft Applications Specialist competition at Alnwick Castle, Northumberland, this weekend. The BTEC ICT student’s selection came after he won a gold medal in the regional heats by successfully completing a series of tasks in Microsoft Word and Excel. Competitors were set business problems to solve using advanced features of the software.
Farnham College’s head of IT Rachel Connor said: “This is a tremendous achievement for Lee and an excellent opportunity for the college to showcase the talents of its IT students at a national level. If Lee is successful he could go on to be selected to represent the UK in the international WorldSkills final in London in October.”
The WorldSkills London 2011 Competition will take place from 5 October over four days and is one of the biggest events ever to be held at ExCeL London. Over 1,000 young people from all over the world will battle it out in 46 different skills to be crowned the best in their chosen skill.
