99.6% - Farnham Sixth Form College A Level Pass Rate sets a new high

Posted on 25 August 2011

Students were back at Farnham Sixth Form College on Thursday (18 August) to collect their A Level results. For many of them, university now beckons.

The pass rate on A Level courses was an outstanding 99.6%, the highest ever, with a 100% pass rate across the board except for one paper.

Emily Atkinson, who served as President of the Students’ Union, achieved A*A*A* in English Literature, English Language and Media Studies. She now plans to take a gap year and work as a freelance journalist before going on to study Journalism at university, as she ultimately wants to become a foreign correspondent. Emily, who was brave enough to open her results live on air at Eagle Radio, was overcome with emotion and immediately burst into tears.

Tegan Creedy also achieved straight A*s in A Level Economics, English Literature and History. She was delighted with her results and is off to work in an orphanage in Bolivia, before applying to Oxford to study History next year. She commented that her results were better than she could have imagined and that the teaching at Farnham had been fantastic. Her ultimate goal is to become a barrister.

Students need to achieve at least 90% in their upper sixth units to gain the new A* grade for exceptional achievement and learners from a range of courses were rewarded for their efforts by achieving it.

The College also offers a number of vocational subjects and results for these qualifications were equally impressive, with a large proportion of students achieving the highest Distinction grades in all BTEC courses. Jessie Berenson and Alex Hall achieved distinctions in Media BTEC National Diploma, as  did Daniel Ashby, who is now off to study at the University of the West of England. Charlotte Corby and Sangila Gurung achieved distinctions in the Health and Social Care National Diploma with James Back and Catherine Clark achieving distinctions in the Sport BTEC Extended Diploma.  Michael Bingle and Beth Crabb studied the Business BTEC National Diploma and were also rewarded with distinction grades. Beth said of her results: “The course was exceptional and has given me an excellent foundation for a successful future. I’m ecstatic that I got in to my first choice university.” Beth is now off to study Business Management at the University of Bournemouth.
