Farnham Student Designs Praised By V & A

A project undertaken by graphics products students at Farnham College has won praise from top designers at London’s revered Victoria & Albert Museum.

In the ‘real life’ project ,10 A-Level students were set a brief in conjunction with the V & A to design and make promotional materials for an exhibition at and inspired by the museum, with the aim of increasing their understanding of the graphics industry.

The students visited the museum and conducted extensive research, exploring several design concepts. After feedback sessions with V & A staff a number of ideas were developed, evaluated and refined. The final designs for a poster, leaflet, advertisement and three dimensional display were then presented to the V&A’s Head of Design and the Head of Schools, Families & Young People (Education).

Fred Carter, Director of Farnham College said: “With the help of the V&A and its staff the whole project was an excellent learning experience. Students realised the importance of meeting strict deadlines, gained valuable presentation skills and learned how to use constructive feedback to improve their work.  The students’ work was very well received and in some cases people thought it could have been actual V&A material!”
