Why Choose Farnham College?

Deciding where and what to study after GCSEs are possibly some of the most important and life changing choices your son or daughter will make. We understand the challenges facing them as they take the next step in their education and aim to provide them as new students and you as their parents with a smooth and supportive transition process. We offer:

1. Outstanding pass rates

  • 98% average A Level pass rate over the past 5 years
  • 100% National Certificate pass rate over the past 3 years
  • 85% merit or distinction grades in National Certificates

2. Quality guaranteed

Ofsted Inspectors comments July 2009:

"Students at Farnham make outstanding progress at A Level"
"Success rates were high against sixth form college averages"
"Students on AS and A Level science courses at Farnham make excellent progress"

3. Value added

Students on most courses get better results than expected from their GCSE grades on entry. Farnham College is in the top 15% of schools and college nationally for improving student grades, as measured by the A Level Performance System (ALPS).

4. Progression

Our students regularly secure places at the UK’s leading universities including Oxford and Cambridge. We also have a very good track record when it comes to entering employment, with students being accepted onto training schemes with well-regarded organisations.

5. Reputation

45% more students chose Farnham College in 2006-2009. We are renowned for the quality and success of our teaching and learning and can boast a prestigious history – the College dates back to 1585.

6. Range of courses

We offer a wide range of subjects and courses with progression from intermediate to advanced level. We also offer the opportunity to mix A and AS Levels with BTEC vocational programmes. The College prides itself on matching the right qualification to the right student. Every student has a detailed pre-course interview to discuss the course and their future plans and all courses start with an induction programme. If, after the start of the course, it becomes apparent that another subject or level would be more appropriate, it is possible to transfer to a different course.

7. Top quality support

All students have a personal tutor who meets with them regularly on an individual and group basis to discuss progress, set targets and address any issues or support needs. Our Student Services Team can provide counselling, study support and advice on travel, financial help and health matters. Our Additional Learning Support Team helps students with dyslexia, physical disabilities and sensory impairments.

8. High quality tuition

Our tutors have proven teaching abilities and deliver consistently high pass rates. Added to this, their diverse backgrounds bring a wealth of experience and skills to our courses.

9. Excellent facilities

We recognise the importance of high quality teaching and learning resources and recently made a multi-million pound investment in our facilities. These include a learning resource centre, art and design studios, science laboratories, hair salon and IT and Apple Mac suites.

10. Added extras

Our students benefit from practical and hands-on experience and activities such as field trips, fundraisers, events and more. Recently these included filming a pilot for a game show at BBC TV studios, visiting the battlefields of World War 1 on a visit to France, finding out about the health service at Frimley Park Hospital and practising biological surveying methods during a visit to Swansea.
