Activate Learning is excited to be opening its new Forensic Training Academy at Farnham College from September in partnership with Integritas Global Consultancy (IGC), a Crime Scene Investigation and Specialist Forensic training provider to UK and International Police and other government agencies.

For anyone interested in specialising in forensic science, the college will be offering the unique opportunity to combine Applied Science, with new content delivered by IGC, at the new Forensic Training Academy based on-site at its Morley Road campus in Farnham.

The Forensic Training Academy includes a dedicated classroom and practical training areas where all of the forensic disciplines are taught. Additionally, there are a number of Environmental Training
Areas that are used to create crime scenes to assess the practical application of the theory in a real-life environment.  This unique offering will give students an insight into careers in crime scene investigation and the wider forensic science specialisms, as well as help them to practice and refine the skills they need to make them ready for life in the workplace.

Head of Farnham College, Neil Brookes, said: “Having the Forensic Training Academy on site brings great opportunities for our students studying on our science pathways and A Levels. The facility provides authentic learning experiences delivered by industry professionals meaning that, when they leave us, students are best placed to move on to university or into employment.”

IGC was formed in 2015 and is founded on strong values and the key principles of integrity, confidentiality, proficiency and adaptability.  Staffed by academics and former military and law enforcement professionals with experience in global operations, high threat environments and major crime, IGC deliver exceptional services that are uniquely developed and delivered around the client’s operating environment and needs.  IGC is a Skills for Justice (SFJ) Awards Approved Centre that delivers accredited crime scene investigation and forensic training, specialist investigation training and also provides quality management and consultancy services. In 2019, IGC became the only UK company to attain Skills for Justice (SFJ) Awards accreditation for the delivery of crime scene investigation which it delivers to UK and International Police and other government agencies at the Forensic Training Academy.

The CEO of IGC, Mitchell Youngman, said: “The opportunity to work collaboratively with Activate Learning to add real value to the forensic studies of the students attending Farnham College is extremely exciting and is at core of what IGC is about; developing the learning pathway of those that want to work within the forensic world”.

Dr Jonathon Brooks is the Director of Forensic Training at the academy and is the global lead within the field of Forensic Taphonomy.  As such he manages the research aspects of the company, collaborating and communicating with universities and forensic institutions worldwide to develop a world class research centre. This research fuels the training of policing staff, crime scene investigators and forensic practitioners to ensure that quality and effective training is delivered. Accordingly, Activate Learning and the students of Farnham College will directly benefit from this work and Dr Jonathon Brooks and the team looking forward to what the future holds.

The Director of Forensic Training, Dr Jonathon Brooks, said: “As a leading forensic practitioner I am beyond excited to be involved in this project, I am looking forward to helping those students excel in areas where they couldn’t before. The younger generation are the key to the future, by giving them opportunities to advance is what we should be doing as scientists and leaders within the subject”

Students studying the two-year Applied Science Edex BTEC Level 3 Diploma will cover a wide range of topics across biology, chemistry and physics and will acquire a high level of practical laboratory skills. They will also benefit from being taught in modern well-equipped labs with plenty of practical opportunities, industry visits and field trips. On successful completion of the course, students will be able to progress to university and / or continue onto a science career.
